How to load the SwimCount™ Harvester

The video below demonstrates exactly how you should load the SwimCount™ Harvester 1 mL and how to aspirate the purified sample. The video also demonstrates what NOT to do when loading the SwimCount™ Harvester and what happens if the device is overfilled.

What to be aware of when using the SwimCount™ Harvester 1 mL device

1. Add only 1 mL of semen (for the SwimCount™ Harvester 1 mL device respectivly)

It is important that you only add 1 mL of semen sample to the SwimCount™ Harvester 1 mL Device as described in the Instructions for Use. NOT more than 1 mL as this will lead overfilling the device.

2. Specifically designed to have air gap at the opposite end when loading the semen sample

Please note when loading the semen sample into the SwimCount™ Harvester that there can be an air gap at the end, which may look like an air bubble and could indicate that the SwimCount™ Harvester is not filled correctly and need more semen to be added. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. The SwimCount™ Harvester is specifically designed to have this air gap when filling the device to avoid any overfilling.

3. Add only 0.8 mL of Sperm Preparation Medium

It is IMPORTANT that you only add 0.8 mL of Sperm Preparation Medium as described in the Instructions for Use. NOT more that 0.8 mL as this will lead to overfilling the device.

4. Specifically designed to have air gap at the opposite end when loading the Sperm Preparation Medium

Once again, please note when loading the Sperm Preparation Medium into the SwimCount™ Harvester that there can be an air gap at the end, which may look like an air bubble and could indicate that the SwimCount™ Harvester is not filled correctly and need more Medium to be added. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. The SwimCount™ Harvester is specifically designed to have this air gap when filling the device to avoid any overfilling.

What happens if the SwimCount™ Harvester device has been overfilled?

5. Adding more than 1 mL of the semen sample

If there is added more than the intended volume of 1 mL of semen sample, then it will result in an unclear aspirate, as the semen will get pushed/forced through the membrane into the upper chamber. (Which can be seen at the picture to the left)

6. Adding more than 0.8 mL of the Sperm Preparation Medium

If there is added more than the intended volume of 0.8 mL of Sperm Preparation Medium, then it will result in an unclear aspirate and an overflow of the semen sample form the semen inlet port. (Which can be seen at the picture to the left)
